extracting methane

Extracting methane gas from household waste

To extract the methane gas from household waste is easy to explain, but not that easy to do. First, put household wastes into the warming bed. In the warming bed, the waste will be separated into two parts, some of it will become fertilizer, while the others continue to next procedure, the dirt trap. Dirt trap filters components that flows from the warming bed through a pipe. It also have a release cap on it's bottom, so whenever the dirt trapped in the trap is full, you should open it's cap so the dirt won't overflooding it. After being dirt-filtered, components are heading to the gas indicator. In there, those components are reacted with water so the methane is separated from it's 'carrier' (the household waste components), and it also become bubbles which tell us how much methane we can get. After get extracted, the methane gas flows through the pipe, heading to the gas holder and ready for use. But in the way there, it have to pass two more systems to control it's pressure. First system is the pressure release, it excess gas when pressure is high, so it's basic function is to reduce the gas pressure. The other one is inner tubes, it works like a pump, so when you give weight on top of it, it will increase the gas pressure. after passing those procedures, you can get the extracted methane by pushing the tap at the end of gas holder.

Sewage Disposal Unit

Sewage Disposal Unit is an easy way to waste the sewage, but not to pollute the river. This unit consists of settling tank, pump house, and sprinkler beds. First, polluted water flows through main sewer to settling tank. Here, sewage is stayed for a while to separate solids material from liquid through settling. When all of the undecayed solids are settled in the bottom of the tank, it has to be taken and then be removed and burned. Meanwhile, the liquid or polluted water is kept flow to the pump house. This house pumps polluted water to the sprinkler beds. Next in sprinkler beds, this water flows up through T-shaped pipe. Then the horizontal part of this pipe is rotated and it sprays jets of this water into a filter. This filter made of stones and microorganisms, so it can make water less polluted by removing organic material in the polluted water. The last step is purified water flows through pipe into a river.

House water flows

Here goes the explanations for the picture above. First, the house is receiving cold water from the main source (the water supplier) by an underground hydraulic pipes. Then it distribute the cold water directly to the sink at the first floor, blocked by a water tap, standby for dish-washing use. Along with that, the water also flows to the second floor, supplying cold water for the bath (with a watertap), wash basin (with a watertap either), and for toilet's flush in the bathroom. It also 'climb' to the rooftop, where the cold water tank is. From the cold water tank, the water is transferred to the hot water tank to increase it's temperature. Then, the 'temperature-increased-by-the-tank' water (hot water) is distributed directly to the sink on the first floor (blocked by another watertap), and also to the bath and the wash basin in the second floor's bathroom (the two are blocked by another watertaps too).

TASK 2 : PROCESS PARAGRAPH

The water distribution in the house is quite simple. First, water reaches the house through the big main pipe from the water supplier called PDAM. When the water reaches the house, it is still cold. Then, the pipe from the water supplier branched out to three main destinations. The first destination is the sink that located on the fist floor. The second destination is the bathroom’s stuffs like bath, wash basin, and toilet that located on the second floor. The last destination is the cold water tank that connected to the hot water tank. In the hot water tank, the cold water from the cold water tank will be warmed. When the water is warm enough, the water will be distributed to the bath, wash basin, and sink.

Definition and Process Paragraph

Angklung is the most popular musical instrument in Bandung. Angklung has been well-known in Bandung since 1955. Angklung is a musical instrument made out of two bamboo tubes attached to a bamboo frame. The tubes are carved so that they have a resonant pitch when struck. To play an angklung, we must held the frame is with one hand while the other hand shakes the instrument rapidly from side to side. This causes a rapidly repeating note to sound. An angklung only has one note. Because of that, to play a music, we need more than one angklung. Some angklungs which play together will complete melodies and make very beautiful music. Angklung not only popular in Indonesia, but also in Southeast Asia.

In our house, we can use hot and cold water everyday. The cold water come from ground and pumped to the house. In the house, cold water is distributed to the sink at first floor and to the bath, wash basin and toilet at the second foor. The other cold water is distributed to the cold water tank at the top of house. Thus is the process of cold water supply. For hot water supply, cold water from from cold water tank is distributed to the hot water tank at second floor. In hot water tank, cold water is changed to be hot water. The hot water is distributed to the bath, wash basin at second floor and to the sink at first floor. Because there are hot and cold water at bath, wash basin and sink, we can mix them to get warm water.

Task 3

Back in my hometown we have this delicacy known as Taukua He Ci. Taukua is a word in Hokkian dialect for tofu, whereas he ci refers to prawns mixed in some sort of flour-dough and deep-fried. However, although it is called taukua he ci, the food itself consists of more than just tofu and fried prawn. First we have the tofu, —the kind of tofu with thick yellow skin and soft-white filling— which is simply cooked. Next the deep-fried prawn. It’s sort of like rempeyek, only that prawns are used instead of peanuts. Then the meat, which is a mixture of pork and some chopped vegetable, which is then rolled up and also deep-fried, then chopped to smaller portions. Boiled vegetables were added, usually kangkung (water spinach, or also known as swamp cabbage). Then the tofu, he ci, meat, and vegetables were put together in a plate and a thick red sauce is poured. The sauce consists of pineapple juice (and a reasonable amount of red colouring, of course), which gives it the sweet-sour taste.

One of the many advantages of living in a modern age is its practical water system; turn on the tap and we got either hot or cold water. For example this two-storeyed house in the picture. Water from the water company is pumped to a water tank at the top of the house, then from there the water is distributed thoroughout the house: to the bathroom on the first floor and to the kitchen on the ground floor. Most houses (like this one in the picture) have hot water tank for hot water supplies. Water from the tank flowed down to the hot water tank on the first floor to be heated, and from that tank the heated-water is distributed to the bath and wash-basin in the bathroom, and to the sink in the kitchen.

Laksamana Mengamuk

If you visit Pekanbaru for the first time you will find that it is very hot at the daylight. Then, you search for a restaurant to have a fresh drink to cool down your body. In the menu offered, you will find a strange drink menu: Laksamana Mengamuk which means “raging admiral” in English. Laksamana Mengamuk, however, is one of the Riau’s traditional drinks. Actually it is not as strange as its name. It is just a kind of icy drink made up from kuini (a type of strongly odorous mango) mixed up with santan, milk, and sugar palm. It’s quite not clear why it is named so. Yet, from the story I’ve got, in the past time this drink was added chili, so the drinker would rage because of the hotly spiced. I think it is not a genius idea to add such chili into the drink. You shouldn’t be worry to drink it because nowadays the drink, of course, doesn’t contain any chili anymore. I recommend you to try it since it is very fresh and delicious.

Water Distribution at Home

Cold and hot water distribution within the house is a simple process. Cold water from the mains can be distributed by pumping it directly to parts of house that need cold water such as toilet, bath, and wash basin. The rest of cold water then is stored at cold water tank n the top of the house. It also can be distributes again within the house. Some of water may be sent to hot water tank and experiences heating up to desired temperature. Then the hot water now can be distributed to parts of house that also need hot water such as bath, wash basin, and sink.
